Fried Green Tomatoes

These fried green tomato recipe is one of my all-time summer favorites. They can be served alone as an appetizer or combined with a protein like bbq shrimp for an exciting main course.

Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients

  • 4 green tomatoes cut into 1/2 inch slices
  • 3 eggs beaten
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup bacon drippings oil, or shortening

Breading

Instructions

  • Coat slices in a light dusting of all purpose flour.
  • Dip floured slices into egg mix.
  • Coat slices in the breading mixture.
  • Heat the bacon drippings, oil, or shortening in a heavy skillet and saute the slices in it quickly until browned on both sides.
  • Remove to a plate with paper towel to remove extra drippings then serve immediately.
