Tilia Foodsaver - Professional & Ultra
Tilia
Retail Price:
Professional - $330
Ultra - $200

The ideal behind the Foodsaver line of products is to let you lengthen the life of your food. You can preserve raw and already prepared meals for freezing without worry of freezer burn or foreign smells or tastes. It also works to lengthen the life of items in your refrigerator like bacon and cheese that can go bad very quickly because of access to air. The units work by vacuuming the air from either the heavy plastic bags and then seal them or remove the air from jars or the Foodsaver containers allowing you to preserve the contents for a much longer length of time. This is one product that delivers all the it promises and you will probably find yourself sealing items just for fun.

I like to do bulk shopping and seal meal size portions then just toss them in the freezer for later use. This also works well for gardeners because it works just as well for freezable vegetables. The storage are so durable that you can boil the sealed bags or microwave opened bags making preparation for vegetables or already prepared meals. Vacuum storage makes for less bulk because you no longer have to use liquids to protect your food. This means you can fit more into you freezer and your food unthaws faster without the protective ice coating.

The professional model is extremely easy to use and although it has the largest footprint of all the models it stores one roll of bags inside the unit. Another feature of the Professional is a built in bag cutter that makes making bags and trimming newly sealed bags is absolutely necessary in my opinion and I am unsure why they wouldn't include this in all there models. The Professional model is so simple to use that you will be sealing your first bag in minutes without watching the instructional video. The smaller models are not as easy to use and I have actually had bags that have not sealed properly. The units are easy to maintain, you only need to wipe any liquid from the overflow channel.

The only thorn on the rose is the price of the units. The smaller models are cheaper but in my opinion it is well worth it to spend the extra money and enjoy the extra features that you get in the Professional model. These units will pay for themselves with what you don't lose to the trashcan. For those of you who have a large freezer and like to keep it stocked this is a must. It has gained permanent counter space in my kitchen and that says alot.
